SUMMARY
Coordinates and manages daily operations pertaining to landscaping under the direction of the engineering guidelines of the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, Inc., with direct responsibility for supervising the landscaping, monitoring preventative maintenance programs, and inventorying parts and supplies. Maintains Turf, plants, trees, hedges, irrigation, and beach. Promotes and follows LJBTC, Inc.'s Signature Service standards and requirements ensuring a lasting impression of exemplary service resulting in supremely satisfied and loyal members and guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures neatness and cleanliness of the landscaping.
- Maintains the turf, irrigation, plants, hedges, trees, and beach to the highest possible standards.
- Supervises Landscape personnel.
- Consults and, if necessary, assists on work assigned to Grounds.
- Ensures quality control and work standards are maintained and regularly updated to meet changing department and property needs.
- Monitors and implements preventative maintenance programs by maintaining accurate logs and records and effectively planning and scheduling preventative maintenance programs that pertain to grounds & vehicles.
- Maintains inventories of repair parts and consumable supplies to minimize downtime and maximize cash flow as approved by engineering management.
- Physically inspects assigned areas daily. Makes recommendations for corrections.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Confers with manager to assist to resolve complaints regarding work and reports to Engineering Director.
- Coaches department personnel as needed.
- Sets an example for subordinates by meeting and exceeding the performance requirements of the job and maintaining good work habits (punctuality, reliability).
Accident Prevention and Safety:
- Analyzes tasks for potential dangers and promptly corrects hazards or informs supervisor and/or safety committee representative.
- Follows safety rules and regulations at all times.
Energy Conservation and Energy Consumption:
- Whenever possible, attempts to reduce unnecessary water consumption and to ensure necessary consumption is as efficient as possible. Adheres to all current water regulations.
- Offers technical advice and information for energy programs within the department.
Fire Protection:
- Maintains familiarity with the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club Emergency Organization Plan.
Financial Management:
- Maintains proper coding of packing slips and material requisitions.
- Monitors the purchase order and material requisition systems to ensure that effective cost control is being maintained.
Technical and Service Responsibilities:
- Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
- Assists Chief Engineer in planning, developing, and implementing new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
- Responds and ensures quick response by the Engineering Department to customer needs, which will meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Confers with management to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
- Performs duties of Grounds II and III personnel as instructed.
- Maintains skills and knowledge in the following areas: Landscape, Tennis Maintenance, Irrigation, and pesticide application.
- Other duties may be assigned.
OUTCOME
The overall maintenance of the Grounds/Tennis Courts and Beach which influence guest and co-employee impression of the total organization. Clean, well maintained facilities and equipment will contribute to guest comfort and satisfaction.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the supervision of employees in the Grounds Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from Two‑year College or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in English with customers, managers, vendors, or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have valid California driver's license.

SCHEDULING
This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Shifts will generally be rotated unless you were hired for a specific shift, as much as possible to be fair to everyone. Be aware that at times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed shift if business or task assignments demand.
